Wisconsin Religious Exemption Laws: Current and Proposed

Like most states, Wisconsin has a law that protects parents from prosecution of child abuse or neglect if they acted in accordance with religious beliefs. Two bills have been introduced in Wisconsin that affect the state's religious exemption law, but in very different ways. One, introduced by Senator Lena Taylor, would expand religious exemption while one introduced by Representative Teresa Berceau would eliminate the exemption. This live presentation and webinar will provide information on Wisconsin's current law, and what each proposed bill would change.

WIPSAC board member Joan Korb will discuss legal implications and Raelene Freitag will address social work perspectives. A national advocate opposed to religious exemption laws, Rita Swan, President of Children's Healthcare Is A Legal Duty, will join the discussion by conference phone.

This session will be presented live in Milwaukee and simultaneously webcast. (If you will be viewing the webcast, you need to register. If you will be attending the live presentation, there is no need to register.)
